Today in class we discussed 3D printing. We started by watching a video that introduced the uses of 3D printing throughout society. Some examples were buildings, tampon holder, prosthetics, and body parts for animals. They are now already being used in more areas and scientists continue exploring that field. We then started talking about 3D printing specific to our classes. There were specific rules such as a specific height and width. The process itself had a few main steps and components to follow. The steps were to define the problem, research the problem, brainstorm solutions and ideas, create, test, improve upon the idea or creation, and lastly redesign.
We began by looking at our materials such as the Legos. We researched some ways to build a car such as with two wheels, three wheels, or four wheels. After researching we decided to do a three wheel car, similar to a tractor. This way it could carry an object while also being balanced. We brainstormed that we create a long torso that way it can carry a variety of objects. However, after creating it we tested it out and realized that the front, the part with one wheel, was not able to carry the entire object. So, we then made it to be two wheels in the front together, with two wheels in the back that were separated. This accomplished two things, one it allowed for the car to not tip over and two go further in distance.
